Very soon, on April 25-26, the premiere of a new, unique and interesting performance "The Overcoat" based on the novel of the same name by the famous writer Nikolai Gogol will take place at the State Puppet Theater of Almaty. The director of the new play is Nikoloz Sabashvili, who was specially invited from Georgia. Georgia is a country that is distinguished not only by its picturesque places and culture, but also by advanced results in the field of puppetry.
The State Puppet Theater of Almaty has long put into practice the implementation of artistic productions that are intended not only for young viewers, but also for teenage and adult audiences. In recent years, such performances as "Mother's Heart", "Mother's Field", "Romeo and Juliet", "Macbeth, The Illusion", "Abai. The Impressions", "Omir-ozen", "The Old Man and the Sea", "The Champion" have appeared in the repertoire of the puppet theaterand all of them were staged based on the best literary and dramatic works of worldy known and domesticly known writters. These performances regularly took part in international theater festivals held in Kazakhstan and foreign countries, winning prizes and audience sympathy. Now the repertoire will be replenished with the another unique performance "The Overcoat" based on the novel of the famous classic writer Nikolai Gogol.
This performance, which is scheduled to premiere on April 25-26, is complemented by a performance characterized by an original director's decision, deep philosophical overtones and especially memorable puppet images. The director and artist of the performance is Nikoloz Sabashvili, the choreographer is Rinat Bilibayev. The main role in this performance is played by a talented actor of the puppet theater – Shokhan Kulnazarov.

"I can say that it all started with a friendship that was formed as a result of an exchange of creative opinions and discussion of new ideas. This is not my first time in this city, this is my third visit to this wonderful city of Almaty. In 2023, I met the director of the State Puppet Theater of Almaty, during the International Festival of Puppet Theaters "Orteke". After our acquaintance, we discussed the possibilities of creating joint projects, agreed and signed a memorandum of cooperation between the Association of Puppet Theaters of Georgia and the State Puppet Theater, And now, a year later, I am back in Almaty. I want to say that the puppet theater staff welcomed me very warmly, and when you feel comfortable, it becomes easier and more interesting to work. I think I made the right choice when I agreed to put on a play in this theater. I am looking forward to the results and hope for other joint projects. I wish you good luck with the new performance."
